 Coping With Crisis 101: HistoryFor many years Steve Bassett has taught clients how to deal with the news media in general and in a crisis situation. The program is called Crisis Media Management and began when Bassett was approached by a number of members of Congress requesting a crisis media training program for congressional staff members. Over the years Bassett has taught professionals in a wide range of industries how the news media works and how to work with them. In 2003, the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW), an organization with which Bassett has had a professional relationship for many years, asked if the crisis media training program could be expanded to included crisis management in a broader sense for the public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) industry. Thus was born Coping With Crisis 101 - Managing a PRW Disaster. In conjunction with IARW and the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), Bassett teaches PRW management how to develop and implement an effective crisis management plan and how to deal with the many types of crises which can impact cold storage warehouses. As an instrument-rated pilot with an aviation background dating back to 1978, Bassett saw a significant void in aviation crisis management training and created Coping With Crisis 101 - Managing an Aviation Disaster. This program is designed around a worst-case scenario in aviation - a fatal aircraft crash. Bassett's Coping With Crisis 101 programs are unique in that they not only take companies through a detailed step-by-step process on how to create and implement effective crisis management techniques, but they also incorporate an extensive section on crisis media management. Other companies offer some form of crisis management training. But, no other company that we have found offers this level of CM training. That is because no other such training program has been developed by and is taught by someone with an extensive professional background in aviation, communications and the news media. Coping With Crisis 101 is the most detailed and comprehensive crisis management program available anywhere.
